for a dynamic, committed person to organize and operate the JCIRA Multicultural Center, 20 hours
20 hours per week to start. Must be fluent in Spanish and English and have direct connection to the
immigration experience.

Overall purpose of position: Be one of the most visible faces of JCIRA. Make the JCIRA Center warm, welcoming, and open to immigrants and allies, and be open to new ideas and uses of the Center in ways that promote positive systemic change for immigrants. Represent JCIRA to other groups as needed. Help build the JCIRA volunteer system.
Responsibilities and Tasks
Administrative (See detailed task list below.)*
Legal Defense and Family Support Fund--provide administrative support for getting funds to applicants in need; details will be provided.
Advocacy
● Refer persons needing help with school registration, domestic violence including reporting, medical assistance etc. to Outreach Coordinator and support their efforts as needed.
● Refer persons needing legal assistance to the Legal Coordinator and support their efforts as needed.
● Refer persons seeking English language classes to the ESL teacher; set up center for the ESL class weekly.
Volunteer Coordination: Work to incorporate as much useful volunteer energy as possible into JCIRA. Working with other staff, contractors and volunteer board members, recruit, assign and arrange for volunteer training as needed. Alert staff and board leadership to any issues that may arise with volunteers’ experiences at JCIRA and help to resolve those issues.
Communications
● Send texts to immigrant community members about upcoming events via Simpletext, and respond to replies and questions
● Send email blasts via Mailchimp to our mailing list as needed
● Maintain good communications with your supervisor and other staff/contractors.
Desired skills, education and experience:
Direct or immediate family immigration experience is a critical requirement. Familiarity with any of the immigrant communities in Jefferson or Clallam Counties is desired. Outgoing personality, ability to make newcomers to the Center feel at home.
Education: At least a high school diploma or equivalent experience. More education or experience can be put to good use.
Language skills: Ability to read, speak and understand English and Spanish with comfort is required. The majority of people that JCIRA works with are Hispanic; non-Spanish language skills are a bonus.
Volunteer or work experience: Experience working with volunteers and/or with non-profit organizations highly desired.
Computer skills: Comfort using typical office equipment and email, social media, MS Office. JCIRA also uses Zoom, SimpleText, MailChimp, Quickbooks, donor management software and web management software. Familiarity with any of these or similar software is desirable. .Willingness and ability to learn at least some of this software is required.
Confidentiality: All persons who work with JCIRA must abide by a confidentiality agreement to protect the privacy of persons who use JCIRA services. JCIRA’s reputation as a safe place for immigrants to tell their stories is vital to the immigrant community and to JCIRA’s success. Failure to abide by the confidentiality agreement is grounds for dismissal.
Hours and salary: To begin, the selected candidate will work an average of 20 hours per week, opening, staffing and closing the Center according to scheduled hours; this currently requires approximately 17.5 hours per week. Remaining work hours will be taken up with required meetings, Hours per week may increase depending on the person’s skills, willingness and ability to take on responsibility. Salary is $30 per hour to start.
There will be a 3-month trial period. If at the end of the trial period, the selected applicant and JCIRA agree to continue the relationship, a one-year contract with possibility of renewal will be provided. Personal days and sick leave are provided according to the current Staff/Contractors Benefits document (provided to all applicants).

*Administrative task list: These are typical administrative tasks, but this is not a complete list.
● Keep track of supplies, order supplies as needed, stay within budget guideline
● Keep Center tidy and organized; (a cleaning person provides weekly cleaning)
● Create (using Canva) or arrange for creation of event signage, brochures, letterhead, etc.
● Order items from printer (business cards, brochures)
● Keep Center windows current with JCIRA and other relevant event signage
● Occasionally create educational displays on the Center’s interior walls
● Stay in compliance with JCIRA’s security plan for evacuation, natural disasters, unwanted visitors, etc.
● Maintain log about who comes into Center, why, how many people, and create monthly report
● Help brainstorm and coordinate events at the Center
● Maintain JCIRA/Center calendar (only person who can update JCIRA calendar)
● Open, staff, and close the Center according to the open hours schedule.
● Greet all visitors to the Center and help them feel at home.
● Refer them to services as needed or to other staff depending on need
● Follow-up on if they received services, challenges
● Attend Staff and Center team meetings as scheduled (currently twice/month each)
● Set up for ESL classes weekly, order books/materials for ESL class, other admin tasks
for ESL teacher as needed
● Tech support and set up for meetings and JCIRA staff and Board
● Maintain/update Mailchimp and Simpletext contacts regularly
● Create forms, for example, for JCIRA program participation
● Check [email protected] account daily and respond to or forward emails as necessary
● Prepare a written monthly report for the JCIRA Board
● Track volunteer hours for all JCIRA volunteers; include this information in the monthly board report.
