The JCIRA Multicultural Center gives us the opportunity to do more together for our community. Immigrants and asylum seekers can get help finding resources, and everyone can benefit from the variety of programs available.

At the center, you can:

FREE English as Second Language Class

Celeste Bennett is our ESL instructor

JCIRA’s English classes will resume on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at 6:30 pm, with Celeste Bennett as our ESL Instructor. Classes will take place on Wednesdays.

Celeste Bennett taught English and Journalism for community programs and schools in Baja, Veracruz, and Chiapas, after graduating from The International Teacher Training Organization in Guadalajara, MX. Their admiration of people who embrace new language learning and cultures, especially in adulthood, led them to apply to JCIRA.

Celeste has a Bachelor's degree in English and a Master's of Library Science. In 2025, they retired from the Jefferson County Library District, where they led outreach-related services. Celeste lives on the Olympic Peninsula with their family, which includes 3 lucky dogs.

The class is open to all levels of English learners. Volunteers help students in small groups or individually, depending on the needs of the class. Students can join throughout the school year. We meet in the Multicultural Center on Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Beginning Spanish Language Conversation Classes

Francisca Ramirez is our teacher for beginning Spanish.

Francisca Ramirez teaches our Spanish class for beginners. We are lucky to have Francisca, a native Spanish speaker, to lead this class. A $5 donation is requested for each class for the instructor. 

Mondays from 6:45 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. No registration required.
