what you can do to help now
Worried about how you can help our neighbors and friends who are immigrants in today's world? Or perhaps you are an immigrant and want to know what you else you can do. Here's how to make a difference:
First, you can donate to or volunteer with JCIRA.
You can make sure you and your friends know your rights under the U.S. Constitution, regardless of immigration status. (You can also read the Spanish version.) Come to the JCIRA Multicultural Center to pick up your own copy of Know Your Rights.
Stay informed on current legislation and contact your elected representatives to support bills that aid immigrants.
If you want to do more, support other organizations that help immigrants with legal issues and other assistance:
- Kitsap Immigrant Assistance Center (KIAC)
- Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP)
- La Resistencia
- American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)
And for organizations that help immigrants, see: Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network (WAISN)
In addition, you can:
- Support local officials who stand up for immigrant rights.
- Boycott companies that embrace cruelty to immigrant communities.
- Speak up. Encourage friends to avoid media that spread misinformation and dangerous lies.
- Know the myths about immigration.
- Be kind to all who are in under-represented communities.
Let us stand together to uphold our most cherished values!
